Tax Manager, Family Office Services

Topel Forman is seeking a Tax Manager of Family Office Services, a newly created position for our Family Office division. Our Family Office Service division focuses on a variety of different types of family offices such as single and multi-generation families within a wide array of industries. The Tax Manager will be a trusted advisor to our clients during different stages of the family office life cycle including creation, duration, and restructuring. You will have the opportunity to work closely with family office clients, which include closely held companies and high-net-worth individuals. Topel Forman is a blended workforce, this position can be hybrid in our Chicago office or Denver office, or fully remote. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide advisory tax services to family members including structuring, succession planning, wealth transfer planning, and, tax compliance
  • Evaluate and establish internal controls internally and for client needs with existing client dashboards and recommend or enhance to implement a new one
  • Participate in local and regional committees for Family Office Services
  • Support family members by providing clarification on transactions, follow-up on outstanding actions, and gathering feedback to aid in tax planning or any type of future planning
  • Collaborate with family members outside professionals (i.e. estate planning attorney, trustees, bank etc.) in support of tax compliance and other client initiatives
  • Teach, train, and mentor junior staff within all aspects of tax compliance and family office services
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with each client and vendor, and address any questions or issues that arise

Requirements

  • 7+ years of family office client experience from a mid-sized public accounting firm or a Family Office
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • CPA
  • Experience with QuickBooks and other general ledger software
  • Understanding of U.S. GAAP, budgeting, and financial analysis 
  • Proficient MS Office with advanced Microsoft Excel skills 
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical operations initiatives
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interact as a member of executive management and all levels of staff
  • Ability to build, motivate, and lead a diverse team of accounting professionals
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills

Preferred Requirements

  • Big 4 or Regional Firm experience preferred
