Administration Internship Tax Scanning & Processing - Chicago

The Tax Scanning & Processing internship will include training in administrative areas of tax workpaper preparation and other projects under the Administrative Supervisor. This is a part-time position, working a minimum of 20 hours per work.  At the completion of the internship, interns will have an understanding of administrative aspects of tax returns beginning with the intake of information through the process of presentation and delivery which may provide a strong foundation for future, more in-depth internship opportunities.

 

Essential functions

Tax Scanning & Processing

  • Assist with the intake and processing of tax information, such as scanning, auto-flow, assembling, extensions
  • Build a working knowledge of tax forms and processes

General

  • Identify and communicate issues to Tax Administrator
  • Demonstrating flexibility in prioritizing and completing tasks
  • Proactively seeking guidance, clarification, and feedback
  • Learn about the Firm – get to know partners/managers, services provided, specialties of individuals, key clients, and industries served
  • Build communication skills: practice business writing (clear workpapers and emails), working with other professionals, and feeling comfortable in business situations.

 

Required Education and Experience

Energetic, team-oriented applicants should be Accounting majors proficient in Microsoft Office applications.  Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively are all essential to this position.

 

Time Commitment

Our winter tax scanning and processing internship is a part-time internship that will begin in January and concluded at the end of April.

The expectation will be 4 consecutive hours in the office Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm, for a total of 20 hours per business week, in addition to work on Saturdays as required by our Administrative staff.

Winter 2022 Tax Intern - Chicago

However, if you must take classes, we recommend no more than 1 or 2 classes during your internship to ensure your success in the internship and your schoolwork does not suffer.

Winter 2022 Audit Internship - Chicago

The goal of our audit internship is to train young professionals to understand different aspects of accounting and to provide a good foundation for future opportunities.

Our Winter 2022 Audit Interns will learn how to prepare audit work papers, audit programs, and financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Under the supervision of seniors, managers, and partners, interns will be trained to prepare individual tax returns, tax work paper documentation, and referencing. Our audit interns learn how to utilize various audit and tax software (i.e., Advance Flow, Go system, Go Fileroom, Checkpoint RS, etc.).

Essential Functions of the Internship

Audit (2/3 of internship)

  • Responsibility for auditing select areas of a client balance sheet and income statement
  • Preparation of client assistance requests and appropriate follow-up and evaluation
  • Assist with or prepare financial statements and other related reports
  • Apply the pronouncements of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the AICPA
  • Meet client deadlines for preparation of reports
  • Understand and utilize TF’s audit methodology
  • Regular client site travel

Tax (1/3 of internship)

  • Prepare a variety of tax returns, which may include: individual, corporate, partnership, trust, gift tax, and not-for-profit tax returns to meet government requirements and client expectations
  • Prepare individual tax projections to ensure proper tax planning for the client
  • Maintain a working knowledge of individual tax laws
  • Respond orally and in writing to tax inquiries from various sources, including government agencies and clients
  • Maintain working knowledge of tax preparation software used in the office
  • Perform other accounting duties as necessary to meet the responsibilities of the position and client expectations

General
