Did you know that you need to register to access IRS Online Services?
ID.me is the identity verification platform the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employs to provide secure access to online tax services. In addition to the IRS, several other federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration, also utilize ID.me for multifactor authentication and identity proofing. Individuals must use ID.me to log in and access certain information from the IRS. If an individual already has an ID.me account, for example, if he or she has a Global Entry account (or an account from another federal agency in general), the individual should not need to create a new account; the existing credentials should be able to be used.
Note, ID.me does not process tax returns for the IRS. Instead, the IRS works with ID.me to provide identity verification for various IRS applications and forms.
