Chief Operating Officer

The Chief Operating Officer will report to the Managing Partner and be based in our office in downtown Chicago. A strategic and valuable member of the Executive Team, the COO will provide leadership, management, and vision to the Firm and ensure that appropriate operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people and systems are in place for the effective performance of the Firm. This position is responsible for managing, supervising, and coordinating the administrative, human resources, marketing, IT, and internal accounting teams. The COO will also oversee the Firm’s internal compliance and operational best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Works closely with Managing Partner to run day-to-day operations of the firm.
  • Supervises the IT group to ensure that firm technology is properly managed and proper policies are in place and adhered to by employees – including computer systems, internet, email, telephones, and cybersecurity.
  • Oversees the time and billing, accounts receivable, and collections processes. Reviews and monitors productivity of firm personnel and realization reports
  • Oversees and maintains firm contracts and professional licenses, and registrations (profit-sharing plan, insurance needs, banking relationships, facilities management, etc.).
  • Manages the firm’s banking relationships and ensures that compliance requirements are met for all loan covenants
  • Responsible for reporting key financial metrics to the Executive Committee.
  • Oversees the HR department in relation to internal HR compliance and help manage HR issues, including benefits and performance management, recruiting of full-time staff and interns, staff training, and employee orientations
  • Oversees the Administrative group and helps manage the department from an efficiency standpoint, including improving processes and policies within the department and assisting in efficiently scheduling staff.
  • Works with Marketing Manager and the Marketing Committee to create and implement marketing initiatives.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of firm management experience in a professional services firm, accounting, or law firm
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, and accounting or related field
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical operations initiatives
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative approach including the use of technology and automation to improve Firm processes

Winter 2022 Audit Internship - Chicago

Our Winter 2022 Audit Interns will learn how to prepare audit work papers, audit programs, and financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Under the supervision of seniors, managers, and partners, interns will be trained to prepare individual tax returns, tax work paper documentation, and referencing. Our audit interns learn how to utilize various audit and tax software (i.e., Advance Flow, Go system, Go Fileroom, Checkpoint RS, etc.).

Essential Functions of the Internship

Audit (2/3 of internship)

  • Responsibility for auditing select areas of a client balance sheet and income statement
  • Preparation of client assistance requests and appropriate follow-up and evaluation
  • Assist with or prepare financial statements and other related reports
  • Apply the pronouncements of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the AICPA
  • Meet client deadlines for preparation of reports
  • Understand and utilize TF’s audit methodology
  • Regular client site travel

Tax (1/3 of internship)

  • Prepare a variety of tax returns, which may include: individual, corporate, partnership, trust, gift tax, and not-for-profit tax returns to meet government requirements and client expectations
  • Prepare individual tax projections to ensure proper tax planning for the client
  • Maintain a working knowledge of individual tax laws
  • Respond orally and in writing to tax inquiries from various sources, including government agencies and clients
  • Maintain working knowledge of tax preparation software used in the office
  • Perform other accounting duties as necessary to meet the responsibilities of the position and client expectations

General

This is a full-time internship that begins in January 2022 and concludes at the end of April 2022. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but interns must be available during the core work hours of 9 am to 4 pm and must work at least 35 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

The time commitment starts at 35 hours each week but will increase beginning in mid-to-late January up to a minimum of 50 hours per week, including evenings and 1 day of the weekend. Because of this, we strongly encourage our interns to take the semester off from school. However, if you must take classes, we recommend no more than 1 or 2 classes during your internship to ensure your success in the internship and your schoolwork does not suffer.

Staff Accountant

Our staff accountants assist our clients with their bookkeeping, basic accounting, and payroll functions. The staff accountant is responsible for providing exceptional, personalized customer services to several clients of varying sizes and complexity. Responsibilities
  • Process, record, and pay invoices, bills, and other transactions for managed client accounts
  • Record financial transactions, balancing and reconciling accounts for small businesses and personal financial statements

Tax Supervisor, Expatriate

Responsibilities
  • Build relationships and interact with clients to provide excellent planning, consulting, and international expertise.
  • Prepare and review individual tax returns for expatriate and foreign national populations.

Advise on those impacts and opportunities, as well as with respect to current and proposed transactions.
Required Qualifications

Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering
  • 7-10 years working in the Information Technology field
  • Relevant software certifications: Microsoft, Cisco, VMWare, CompTIA
  • VMWare, Hyper-V, Cisco networking, SAN Storage, firewalls, VPN, Exchange, SQL, O365, etc.
  • Windows Server / Active directory / Group Policy
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • This position is very active and requires physical activity at times such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing
