Staff Accountant

Our staff accountants assist our clients with their bookkeeping, basic accounting, and payroll functions. The staff accountant is responsible for providing exceptional, personalized customer services to several clients of varying sizes and complexity. Time management and organizational skills are critical.

 
Responsibilities
  • Process, record, and pay invoices, bills, and other transactions for managed client accounts
  • Record financial transactions, balancing and reconciling accounts for small businesses and personal financial statements
  • General ledger and financial statement preparation
  • Prepare weekly and bi-weekly payroll and subsequent payroll taxes
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with each client and address any questions or issues that arise
  • Assume responsibility for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies for many projects across multiple teams
  • Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology
  • Timely and accurate processing of month-end and year-end closing and reporting

Required Qualifications
  • 4 or more years of relevant professional experience
  • 2+ years using QuickBooks Software (Desktop and Online), QuickBooks certified preferred
  • Monthly & seasonal overtime is required, including nights and weekends – March/April, September/October, as needed for projects up to 65 hours at the height of busy seasons

Senior Audit Associate

Winter 2022 Audit Internship - Chicago

Essential Functions of the Internship

Tax

  • Prepare a variety of tax returns which may include: individual, partnership, trust, and gift returns to meet government requirements and client expectations
  • Maintain a working knowledge of individual tax laws
  • Prepare individual tax projections to ensure proper tax planning for the client
  • Maintain a working knowledge of tax preparation software used in the office
  • Perform other accounting duties as necessary to meet the responsibilities of the position and client expectations

General

  • Identify and communicate tax and accounting issues to senior associates, managers, and partners
  • Demonstrating flexibility in prioritizing and completing tasks
  • Proactively seeking guidance, clarification, and feedback
  • Learn about the firm – get to know partners/managers, services provided, specialties of individuals, key clients, and industries served
  • Build communication skills: practice business writing (clear workpapers and emails), working with other professionals, and feeling comfortable in business situations
Required Education and Experience

Energetic, team-oriented applicants should be accounting majors proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively are all essential to this position.

Time Commitment

Our summer internship is a full-time internship. The time commitment to start will be 35 hours but will increase beginning in September to a 55 hour per week minimum, including evenings and 1 day of the weekend. During September and October, there is flexibility to work as little as 20 hours per week but you may also elect to work additional hours if your schedule permits. Your availability will be discussed during the interview process.

We strongly encourage our interns to take the semester off from school. However, if you must take classes, we recommend no more than 1 or 2 classes during your internship to ensure both your success in the internship and your school work does not suffer.
